What is the point of living if one does not have the power over ones’ own life?

The process of election gives us a sense of control over our own lives. It’s an act of a high degree of responsibility, both for the conducting authority and the people who go to vote. A person votes in his individual capacity but the impact is felt over the larger section of the society.

It’s like being a cause in the matter: the matter of our own lives. If we choose not to vote, we basically avoid being responsible. Accepting responsibility is not easy.

We love to play the blame game. Forget about the nation at large, we cannot even take responsibility of what is happening in our personal lives. We have someone or something to blame for all that is not working in our lives.

We do not realise that we are an inherent part of our environment. We are not a victim of the problem but a part of the problem itself. Yes, we have the choice of being a part of the solution.

Leaders are a mere reflection of the society. But we love to blame them for anything and everything. It should not sound as if I am standing in defence of the leaders. But there is a total loss of self introspection in our society. Instead of blaming the leaders why not ask the basic question—why are leaders the way they are? It’s because they are just like us! Very difficult to face... isn’t it?

It’s like looking at oneself in the mirror and getting scared!

We get what we deserve.

Interesting thought.

The process of election gives us a sense of control over our own lives. It’s an act of a high degree of responsibility, both for the conducting authority and the people who go to vote. A person votes in his individual capacity but the impact is felt over the larger section of the society.

I think that some, if not most people, fail to see how we as a nation can change things when we've tried time and time again, and have ended up only making things worse. I think the sense of, possibility, is gone. No one thinks they can make a difference; perhaps, because of the extreme wings of the parties and other extreme groups have taken charge?

It’s like being a cause in the matter: the matter of our own lives. If we choose not to vote, we basically avoid being responsible. Accepting responsibility is not easy.

I like the saying: Didn't vote? Don't complain.

We love to play the blame game. Forget about the nation at large, we cannot even take responsibility of what is happening in our personal lives. We have someone or something to blame for all that is not working in our lives.

I agree whole heartedly! We do love to play the blame game; not everyone does, but certainly there are moments where something is obviously our fault, but we point the finger.

We do not realise that we are an inherent part of our environment. We are not a victim of the problem but a part of the problem itself. Yes, we have the choice of being a part of the solution.

You can be the problem, or the solution. <-- Great saying in my opinion.

Very difficult to face... isn’t it?

I agree; there is little inrospection as a society. We go in the same circles time and time again, and expect something different. Does a man who makes the same mistake end up with anything diffrent? No.

As for leaders, we like to think that they're a refliction of us. I would tend to think they assume the position (lol) of being representative of our interests, when in fact they represent their own interests - nothing more.

How would you say they're our mirror?

It’s like looking at oneself in the mirror and getting scared!

We get what we deserve.

We get what we vote for, and we deserve what we seek. Lather. Rinse. (Bend over?) Repeat.

hey alderic...

first of all i would like to thank you for reading the blog....

thanks for appreciating it...

you have asked one question that how would one say that they(leaders) are our mirrors...

i would just like to clarify..i did not say that the leaders are our mirrors...i said that they are our reflection..

secondly, there is hundred percent agreement between you and me that the leaders are essentialy selfish and only serve there own interests...but please tell me one thing.. aren't we selfish too.. don't we misbehave after having a little taste of power...dont we have black money..are we honest in paying our taxes..there are so many instances...i am not pointing finger at any one individual...its the same case with the whole society...

another example..are we democratic in our own family?...it goes on and on...

they are just like us..i am trying to bring a larger picture into play..society gets the kind of leadership it deserves...

yes, i agree there is a high degree of cynicism among us...but there must be a way out...what is the way out..i will not answer this...this is for all of us to think individually and collectively...we will get the answer when to change out stance from a position of helplessness to a position of 'being a cause in the matter'

moreanuj another insightful article. But like AJ, I believe we get what we work toward. Only if we are lucky do we get what we deserve, and personally I refuse to leave anything within my power to chance. Often with politics people are pulling in many directions, which may or may not be the direction we wish. Leaders do mirror society, but like mirrors, they can often distort. The leaders, and this is true of any country, must strive to be better than the average person. It is impossible to please everyone, but if a government official is honest, and has the peoples and the nations best interest at heart, he or she will be well ahead of the curve. Even opponents will say they disagree but respect that persons integrity. Personal responsibility as you suggest is a very important part of the way ahead, as well as a solid foundation.

You should write more often, I like authors that offer thought provoking topics. Good job.
