What is the point of living if one does not have the power over ones’ own life?
The process of election gives us a sense of control over our own lives. It’s an act of a high degree of responsibility, both for the conducting authority and the people who go to vote. A person votes in his individual capacity but the impact is felt over the larger section of the society.
It’s like being a cause in the matter: the matter of our own lives. If we choose not to vote, we basically avoid being responsible. Accepting responsibility is not easy.
We love to play the blame game. Forget about the nation at large, we cannot even take responsibility of what is happening in our personal lives. We have someone or something to blame for all that is not working in our lives.
We do not realise that we are an inherent part of our environment. We are not a victim of the problem but a part of the problem itself. Yes, we have the choice of being a part of the solution.
Leaders are a mere reflection of the society. But we love to blame them for anything and everything. It should not sound as if I am standing in defence of the leaders. But there is a total loss of self introspection in our society. Instead of blaming the leaders why not ask the basic question—why are leaders the way they are? It’s because they are just like us! Very difficult to face... isn’t it?
It’s like looking at oneself in the mirror and getting scared!
We get what we deserve.
